• Expression of Interest are invited for Mapping Existing Transport; Energy and Digital Infrastructure in Part of the Amazon Region The Amazon region is faced with the challenge to achieve a delicate balance between the potential for economic growth and the need to preserve its ecosystem. Improving welfare and living standards across the Amazon region is a challenge as it remains one of the poorest regions in South America. The need for improved connectivity within and to the region is one of the means to unlock economic activities; stimulate growth; and reduce poverty. However; this pursuit comes with challenges; notably the risk of deforestation; prioritizing green option and ensuring resilience. Stimulating the bioeconomy - economic activities that do not destroy forests - is an opportunity to harness the region-s rich biodiversity; create jobs; generate income and contribute to the preservation of the Amazon's unique ecosystems. Achieving the full potential of the bioeconomy is impeded by the region's infrastructure challenges. Limited transportation networks; inadequate energy access; and low digital connectivity; hinder the development of the bioeconomy and productivity increases of cities. Moreover; insufficient infrastructure extends beyond economic constraints to impact the overall well-being of communities throughout the region. Recognizing and addressing the multifaceted nature of these infrastructure challenges is essential for creating an environment conducive to the flourishing of the bioeconomy and the holistic development of the Amazon region. Infrastructure solutions need to be carefully planned to prevent them from inadvertently contributing to deforestation. In this context; the World Bank aims to identify where infrastructure gaps exist in a part of the Amazon Region (specifically the Amazon Region territories in Brazil; Colombia and Peru except the mapping for digital that will cover the whole Amazon region); how they impact specific bioeconomies; and identify priority improvements in transport; digital and energy at both regional and national scale; aspiring to identify pathways to infrastructure improvements which do not cause deforestation; and which increase resilience. By understanding and addressing these bottlenecks; targeted interventions can be implemented to overcome the limitations and promote sustainable economic growth. Similarly; the team aims to identify infrastructure gaps faced by communities and seek solutions to enhance access to basic services and improved welfare. The objective of this assignment is to gather comprehensive and reliable data about the existing transport; digital and energy infrastructure and construct a spatial representation of the identified infrastructure. The assignment should be carried out using open data sources complementing publicly accessible official government data. The spatial representation of existing infrastructure within the designated area will serve as a foundational element for a subsequent consultancy; which will focus on identifying the infrastructure gaps and barriers in connectivity and logistics; related to transportation infrastructure; digital connectivity; and access to electricity. It will therefore be necessary that the gathered data can be accessed through a web-application. This spatial platform should not only enable the integration of additional data but also facilitate the examination of infrastructure gaps through robust analytical tools.The key deliverable should be a GIS based tool which is expected to include the following data: (i) inventory of the existing and planned transport; digital and energy infrastructure; including; but not limited to:a. location of roads; ports; waterways; docks; airports; electricity transmission networks; off-grid systems; digital fiber optic infrastructure; mobile towers; etc; b. key attributes of this infrastructure (road category; paved/unpaved road; dock size; airport size; electricity transmission network capacity; fiberoptic capacity; satellite location); c. inclusion of current passengers and freight traffic volume (traffic on roads; waterways and size of vehicles and vessels; electricity service quality); number of people connected / unconnected; population covered/uncovered;(ii) Mapping of small and medium-sized cities and local communities; facilities (schools; hospitals; etc.); and urban infrastructure (transport; energy; digital coverage to access facilities).(iii) Mapping of ecosystems.(iv) Web-application presenting the mapping and allowing further expansion with additional data and analysis of infrastructure gap.(v) Only for digital connectivity; high-level capex/opex estimation of different coverage scenarios related to the application of climate monitoring/adaptation digital technologies. Considering the multi-disciplinary nature of the assignment; companies are encouraged to establish collaborations.
